“Bob”

Robert H. Maney, Jr., age 88, died peacefully at Christiana Hospital on Friday, April 27, 2012.

Bob was born in Philadelphia and moved to Delaware as a child. He was a graduate of Henry C. Conrad High School and Goldey Beacom College. He retired from E. I. duPont de Nemours Petrochemicals Department in 1985 after 44 years of service. Bob served in the United States Army American Forces Pacific Headquarters during World War II and was awarded a Bronze Star. Prior to his stroke in 1991, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Blessed Sacrament Council #3751. He served in various positions including Grand Knight. He was also a 4th Degree Knight and member of Cardinal Gibbons Assembly #150.

As a long-time Elsmere resident and parishioner at Corpus Christi Church, Bob was dedicated to his community, parish and his faith. He was active in local politics, his Church choir, parish council, and a variety of committees. Bob enjoyed time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed his many friends at the Notre Dame Club, Mulrooney’s, Defiance and VFW to name a few.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert H. and Margaret A. (Devine) Maney; his wife, Dorothy M. (Halas) Maney; and his brother, Theordore L. (Ted) Maney. He is survived by his brother, Thomas V. Maney (Rita); his eight children, Mary Ann Peirson (Gene), Robert H. Maney III (Theresa), Patty Rhoads (Bob), James Maney (Mary Ella), Kevin Maney (Sally), Martha Ann Szczerba (Michael), Dennis Maney (Kathy), and David Maney, Sr. (Lisa); his 18 grandchildren; Tom, Chrissie, Jessica, Jeannine, Scot, Nick, Carrie, Jonathan, Stephen, Jennifer, Christian, Clare, Anna, Gracie, Mandy, Daniel, David Jr., and Ashlee; and his 17 great grandchildren, Mimi, Justin, Sophie, Liam, Olivia, Kimberly, Kaitlyn, Jared, Nathan, Krysta, Austin, Emily, Brandon, Aiden, Eloise, Trinity, and Michael Joseph.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi R. C. Church, 901 New Road, Elsmere on Friday morning at 10:30 am and the viewing at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Elsmere on Thursday evening, May 3, 2012 from 5-8 pm. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Corpus Christi Church, 901 New Road, Elsmere, Delaware 19805 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
