Age 90 of Wilmington
Passed away with her family by her side on Thursday, November 9, 2023.
Bernice was born in England to the late Doris and Maurice Gilliand. The family moved to Delaware in 1942. Bernice’s favorite childhood memory was growing up on the Winterthur Estate, where her father was a groundskeeper. She loved the quite of the gardens and creeks, a love she carried with her, her entire life.
Bernice was a talented hairdresser and stylist. She worked from her own home for many years before joining a salon on Union Street in Wilmington. She was a devoted member of Elsmere Presbyterian Church and hardly missed a Sunday service.
In her down time Bernice enjoyed spending time at Delaware Park and other local casinos, trying her luck at bingo, and spending time with her family. She loved all animals especially her cats, dogs, fish, and all the squirrels in her backyard.
In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by her former husband, John Adamson; and her two sons, Skip Adamson and Morrie Adamson.
She will be dearly missed by her granddaughter, Kimmy Ruggiero (Anthony); her three great-grandchildren, JoJo, Aubrey, and Boston; and her daughter-in-law, Veronica Adamson- Hanby.
All services will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions to be made in Bernice’s name to a charity of your choosing.
