Obituary for Catherine "Connie" DeAscanis (Cannon)

Passed away peacefully at home on October 7, 2021. Connie was born in New Castle, DE on December 13, 1931, the third of nine children, to Wallace “Bud” and Marie Cannon. She was a parishioner of St. Peter the Apostle Church, graduating from its High School in 1949. Connie married her husband Francis “Chick” DeAscanis in 1951 and was a stay-at-home mom raising their six children. When they were grown, she enjoyed working in retail sales at Strawbridge’s, Wanamaker’s and Lord & Taylor and also became a Phillies fan. She was always ready for a getaway whether to the beach, Florida or Cancun. “Her bags were always packed.”
Growing up, she often took the ferry to Pennsville to have fun at the roller skating rink. Connie liked to garden, sharing her love of flowers as a member of the Colonial Garden Club. She would often unwind in the evening by playing the piano, which she learned as a child. Her backyard pool was a favorite summer hangout, where many hours were spent sunning, swimming, and enjoying family gatherings.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Colin Kelley, her siblings Jean Gallagher, Marie “Sis” Stansky, James “Spike” Cannon, Helen Pawlowicz and Wallace Cannon III.
Connie is survived by her children Celeste “Holly“ Kelley, Francis “Rocky” Jr, Paul (Joyce), Lisa Bender (Ron), Christopher (Betty), and David (Kristina); 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters Christine Loncki (Walt) and Elaine Pupillo (Tony) and brother Jerome (Paula).
The family appreciates her caregivers Carol, Nancy, Seasons Hospice and especially Holly.
