Catherine “Kitty” L. Pritchard
Age 93 of New Castle
Passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 28, 2019.
Kitty was born in New Castle to the late Dolores (DiStanislao) and Carmine DiAngelo. She was a proud lifelong resident of Shawtown. Kitty was a graduate of St. Peter grade school and William Penn High School. During World War II, Kitty worked at Pusey and Jones Ship Builders, where she was a real life “Rosie the Riveter”.
Kitty was a hard-working individual. She worked as a hairdresser for 8 years running her business out of her own home. Kitty was also employed at many of the local diners and restaurants including, the Peter Pan Diner, M&M Diner, Van Dyke Inn, the Booth House, Bachetti Grocer, and lastly volunteered as a cook and caterer for St. Anthony’s Club. But the job Kitty took the most pride in was being a homemaker. She was always happiest when her home was full of family and she was serving them her famous cooking. Kitty was known for her phenomenal meatballs and Easter bread which she made every year for dozens of her family and friends.
Being a true matriarch, she was always there to help her family, especially with babysitting. Kitty loved babies and was so proud to have such a loving relationship with each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her dear husband of 46 years, Charles S. Pritchard, Sr; her daughter, Janice Hare; her grandson, Jeremy Hare; and her siblings, Evelyn Covelli, Dorothy Octavio, and William DiAngelo.
Kitty will be dearly missed by her children, Charles S. Pritchard, Jr (Kay), Dori Delaney, and James I. Pritchard; her grandchildren, Michelle Heck (Mark), Danny Reader (Jill), Brian Pritchard, Kenny Delaney (Jenn), Katie Garland (Darnell), Danielle Rankin (Danny), and Valerie Godwin; her great grandchildren, Mark, Erika, Brittany, Brent, Will, Danny, Claire, Delani, Lena, Bella, Charlee, Maribel, Rosario, Natalie, Matthew, and Joshua; and her great great granddaughter, Holly. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph DiAngelo (Diane) and a large extended family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, 521 Harmony St., New Castle, DE 19720, on Wednesday, Dec 4 at 11:00am. Friends may call at the church from 10:00am-11:00am. Interment will take place at Cathedral Cemetery following mass.
In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions to be made in Kitty’s name to a charity of your choosing.
