Claude Edward Metz, age 95,
of West Grove PA died on November 23, 2020.
Claude was born on September
14, 1925 in Clendenin, West Virginia, to Okey Lee Metz and Stella Catherine “Katie” Rogers Metz; he was the seventh son of a seventh son of a seventh son. He served in the United States Navy during three years of WWII and was extremely proud of his service
to his country. He then had a long career as a tour bus driver. Between the Navy and his job, he spent time in a total of 49 states -- missing only Alaska.
Claude’s family and friends
remember him first as a dedicated husband and beloved father and patriarch. He enjoyed reading, cracking corny jokes, watching Phillies and Eagles games and Jeopardy, and unexpectedly bursting into song. He was also known for telling detailed stories from
his life and for his extraordinary memory. Anyone in a vehicle with him never needed a GPS because he had a detailed map of nearly the entire country in his head and would have no trouble getting to any destination.
Claude is preceded in death by many older siblings; his first wife, Marshalene Douglas Metz; son, John Bruce Metz; his granddaughter, Wendy Cook Poindexter; and his grandson, Troy Haehle. He is survived by his wife, Gail; daughter, Margaret Metz Cook; daughter-in-law, Jackie Metz Frederick; stepdaughters, Linda Harris
and Sandy Campbell; grandchildren, Shelly, Ted, Heather, Jessica, Paul, Michael, Erin, Julia, Adelina and Gabriella; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Internment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the ALS Association in honor of Wendy Poindexter.
