Dennis R. Dougherty, Sr.
Age 70 of Wilmington
Passed away with his family by his side on Friday, March 19, 2021.
Dennis was born on September 2, 1950 to the late Joseph and Anne (Cofrancisco) Dougherty. He was a proud graduate of Wilmington High School. In 1970, Dennis was drafted into the United States Army, where honorably served his country for two years. He married the love of his life, Patricia Kirk, on June 9, 1979. Together they spent many happy years raising their family. Dennis worked for New Castle County in sewer maintenance until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Anthony Holy Name Society as well as the Prince of Piedmont. He cherished the time he spent there and the friends he made in both organizations. Dennis was a generous man and was always happy to lend a helping hand. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan and enjoyed his daily trips to the grocery store. However, Dennis' favorite pastime was being a Pop Pop. He loved doting on his 5 adoring grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Samuel Wardell, Edward Wojciehowski, and Martin Kirk; his sister-in-law, Marianne Patille; his nieces, Kathy Capano and Jessica Ruff; and nephew, Matthew Wojciehowski.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Patricia Dougherty; his children, Dennis Dougherty (Lauren) and Lindsey Bradley (Julian); the mother of his grandchildren, Jennifer Spang; his grandchildren, Ariella, Thomas, David, Liam, and Julian. He is also survived by his siblings, Joanne, Joseph “Butchie” (Barbara), Patricia, Charles “Cookie” (Christine), Donna, and Ricky; his sisters-in-law, Paula Wardell and Sheila Whitehead (Barry); as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, Mar 26 at 1:00pm at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, 9th and Dupont St, Wilm, DE 19805. Friends may call at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilm., DE 19805, on Fri, Mar 26 from 10:00am-12:00noon. Interment will take place at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery privately.
In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions to be made in Dennis’ name to the Helen Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown Stanton Rd, Newark, DE 19713.
