Obituary for Dimitrios A Visvardis

Dimitrios A. Visvardis passed away at the age of 79 after a valiant fight against glioblastoma cancer on Tuesday, December 15th 2020 at Seasons Hospice at Christiana Care with his loving wife Fotini, and daughters Christina and Aristea, at his side.

He immigrated from Sparta, Greece to Delaware in the 1970s with Fotini and their two daughters, and together they worked hard for the betterment of their family. He was a man of strength and fierce dedication to his family. He was a voracious reader, enjoyed do-it-yourself projects, had a quick wit, enjoyed playing practical jokes, and philosophizing on life. Dimitrios could be counted on if he made a commitment to a friend or a project. Dimitrios remained humble and a hard worker his entire life. He had a deep love for his wife, daughters, and grandson.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, Aristos and Christina, many years ago. Pre-deceased by his brothers-in-law George and Yianni, both of Greece. Most recently and with great sadness he was pre-deceased by his eldest nephew George earlier this year. Dimitrios is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Fotini; his daughters, Christina and Aristea; grandson, Wade; sister, Matoula (Gregory); brother, Socratis (Ruth); He enjoyed a special friendship with his sister-in-law Maria and had a deep bond with his nephew Stavros, both of Athens, Greece. Also surviving him are his nieces and nephews locally and in Greece that he loved and mourn his passing.

He will be dearly missed by his family.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, December 19th from 9:30 a.m. - 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Wilmington, Delaware; with a funeral mass immediately afterwards. Interment will be private.
