Obituary for Dolores E "Dee" O'Connor (Dwyer)
Dolores E. O’Connor, 91 years young passed away on Thursday, December 14th, 2023. Dee was the daughter of the late Joseph A. Dwyer and Mary Elizabeth (Stockman) Dwyer. She was a 1949 graduate of St. Elizabeth’s High School and attended Goldey Beacom College.
Employed by the DuPont Company, Dee met Chas, a pharmacist apprentice; employed at Cavanaugh’s Pharmacy in the DuPont Building. They were married in 1953 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church on Valentine’s Day and celebrated sixty-four beautiful years together.
In 1972 they purchased Cavanaugh’s Pharmacy and together operated Chas J. O’Connor Pharmacy for 25 years.
Dee was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church for 60+ years. Retirement gave her an opportunity to give back to St. Ann’s. She joined the Altar Society, was a member of the ‘money counters’ for the weekly collections and was active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society. In her earlier years, Mom was a cheerleading coach for St. Ann’s and volunteered in the lunchroom. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and Treasurer of the Daughters of Isabella.
Dee was predeceased by husband Chas, April 2017, sister, Joanne Dwyer, 1963, and parents. Surviving are her brother Paul and six loving and caring children: Charles (Jennifer) Wilmington, DE, Donna Fetters (Jim) Holmes Beach, FL, Michael (Theresa) Newark, DE, Marianne Watson (Dennis) Lewes, DE, Eileen Nolte (Chris) Wilmington, DE, and Tommy (Mary) Landenberg, PA. Mom Mom/GiGi is also survived by her fifteen adoring and much loved grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren with number 14 soon to arrive.
The family would like to thank Mom’s primary caregivers, Theresa and Michael for their dedication and love. We also appreciate the support and care provided by Dr. Yvonne Ting, Dr. Lawrence Narun, the staff at Christiana Care Heart and Vascular, and Delaware Hospice.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be held at St. Ann’s Church, 2013 Gilpin Avenue, Wilmington, DE on December 21, 2023, at 11:00am. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
