Obituary for Elaine Josephine Quigley

Elaine Josephine Quigley
November 7,1931 – February 4, 2019

Elaine Josephine Quigley, age 87, formerly of New Castle, Delaware passed away peacefully on February 4, 2019 in Grand Junction, Colorado. She was the daughter of William Henry Collins and Josephine Agnes Collins. Upon graduating from St. Paul’s Commercial, Elaine worked at Commercial Credit in Wilmington. She married Joseph John Quigley III and they lived on the historic William Penn Farm (Quigley Farm to most) in New Castle, Delaware for over 55 years. While raising and involving their four children on the farm, the scope of their farming included a dairy operation, vegetables (Quigley corn!), hayrides, Christmas tree, and seasonal flower businesses at Quigley’s Farm Market.

Elaine was involved in several clubs that were dear to her heart that included flowers, dolls, and 4-H. She organized a special school event for Carrie Downey Elementary, a sunflower growing contest, and helped with the annual garage sale at the Quigley’s Farm Market to support the William Penn Alumni Association’s Scholarship program. She met many of her lifelong friends through the farm market and these organizations. She cherished these memories. She also enjoyed music, dancing, sewing, cats, farm life, planning family get togethers, going out with friends, and holiday celebrations. Always kind and generous, ready to smile and laugh, or lend an ear, everyone knew where to find her when they needed a friend. Elaine often expressed ‘I feel blessed and lucky for the life I led, the wonderful children God gave me, and all the people who helped me along the way.’

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph John Quigley III and her sister, Theresa R. Klair. She is survived by her children, Joseph J. (Claudia) Quigley IV, David (Phyllis Ring) Quigley, Mary Elaine (Robert) Moore, Susan Quigley Landreth; grandchildren, Joseph J. Quigley V, Caitlin Quigley, Glen Moore and Kathleen Moore, sister, Joan Nichols, brother, William Collins Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be on April 26, 2019 from 10-11 am, at Krienen Funeral Home, 101 W. 6th Street, New Castle, DE 19720. Interment will be in the Glebe Cemetery following the visitation.

Elaine’s wishes are to “take a friend to lunch” or a donation to her niece’s, JoAnn Nichols, non-profit: Heart Wildlife Removal – Humane Eviction And Removal Team. www.heartwildliferemoval.com
