Obituary for Evelyn F Houghton (Horne)

Evelyn F. Houghton
Age 83 of Wilmington
Passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 1, 2023.

Evelyn was born to the late Harry and Florence (Yeatman) Horne. She grew up in Newport with her 7 siblings. Evelyn was a graduate of Conrad High School and worked at Bell Telephone. On July 3, 1959, Evelyn married the love of her life, John “Jack” Houghton. Together they shared 58 years of
happiness working and raising their family.

Evelyn was a devout catholic and lifelong member of Corpus Christi R.C. Church. She was also a Regent of Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed volunteering at different church functions and even made rosaries for those in need.

In her early years, Evelyn enjoyed baking with apples and cherries that her sons picked for her, listening to Elvis Presley, the neighbors organ, and laughing with her sisters. With Jack, she would cheer on her favorite teams the Phillies and Eagles and loved to try her luck at Delaware Park and the lottery. In her last years, she would enjoy watching game shows, putting puzzles together and completing word puzzles. Evelyn will be remembered most for her love to laugh and her love of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Houghton; her son, Michael Houghton; and her 8 siblings.

Evelyn will be dearly missed by her children, Debbie (Phil), John (Lisa), David, Ed (Lisa), Kathy (John), Sandy (Joe), Michelle (Dave), and Steven (Ashley); her 20 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and a
host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi R.C. Church, 903 New Rd., Wilm., DE 19805, on Monday, August 7 at 11:30am. Friends may call at the church from
10:30am-11:30am. Interment will be private.
