Obituary for Frances D Blackson (Rozell)

Frances D. Blackson
Age 92 of Wilmington
Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, September 16, 2022.
Frances was born in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Sophie (O’Brien) and James Rozell. She was a proud 1947 graduate of Ursuline Academy. In 1950, she married the love of her life Walter Blackson. Together they lived in Wilmington and raised their family.
Frances was a lifelong parishioner of St. Matthew R.C. Church where she was an active member of the Blessed Mother Sodality. She was the true matriarch of the family and had a great love for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Some of her best memories are of spending time with family and friends playing penny poker. Frances’ sharp wit and passion for life will be dearly missed by all that knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Blackson; her son, James Blackson, and sister, Marie Griffith.
Frances is survived by her children, Scott Blackson, Tom Blackson, John Blackson (Carol), and Ann Kerrigan; her 7 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Charlotte Shilling (Buddy), and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to thank all of Frances’ caretakers over the years, especially Judy, Linda, and Debbie.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Matthew R.C. Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Wilmington, DE 19804, on Tuesday, Sept 27 at 11:00am. Friends may call at the church from 10:00am-11:00am. Interment will take place after mass at All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions be made in Frances’ name to the Breast Cancer Association, https://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/.
