Obituary for Francis DeMonaco

Frank DeMonaco, 75, formerly of Hicksville and Westbury, NY, passed away at Christiana Hospital on June 25th, 2020.

Frank's impact on the world will be felt for ages to come. He taught music in the Garden City Public Schools for thirty years, from 1974 to 2004. He cultivated a love of opera in the children of Stewart School, rewriting the scripts with Jerry DeFina to have annual performances by each graduating class. He was a strong proponent of the Orff methodology and a founding member of the Long Island American Orff Schulwerk Association. Former students remember his eagerness to share new music of each generation with them, too.

Frank was also very active in community theater. He was a music director for Broadhollow and Hofstra productions, and also graced the stage in such roles as Teddy Roosevelt in Tintypes, Fiorello in the play of the same name, Smee in Peter Pan and Sancho Panza in Man of La Mancha.

Beloved husband of John Morgan, adored son of the late Frank and Mary DeMonaco, brother to Jessie Doyle, the late Rosemarie, Nancy DiLillo (Sal), and the late Patrick, adored uncle to many nieces and nephews, adored to many cousins, Frank will remain in our hearts through memories of the music he made and the laughter he shared.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday, July 3 from 7:00-8:00 pm at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy. Wilmington, DE 19805
