Obituary for Frank W. Southard Sr.

Passed away on July 4, 2023.
Frank was born in West Chester, PA to the late Laura (Hale) and Thomas Southard. He was raised in Unionville, PA and was a proud graduate of Unionville High School. On September 12, 1955, Frank married the love of his life Rachel Fernandez. Together they shared 67 loving years of marriage. He was a dedicated employee of Corrado Brothers starting as a laborer before retiring as a superintendent after 55 years with the company. He was also a lifetime member of Elsmere Fire Co.
Frank was a talented baseball and soccer player. He played semipro soccer for the Kennett Clippers and semipro baseball for Canada Dry. He even made the All-Star team and played at Veterans Stadium. When he wasn’t playing his favorite sports, Frank was cheering on his favorite teams the Phillies and Eagles. He was also a talented wood worker. He made many pieces of furniture that are all in use in his family’s homes. Frank’s favorite holiday was Christmas and he always made sure his house was the most festive in the neighborhood. He also loved to relax by smoking his pipe or trying a new cigar.
He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Southard, and his siblings, Tom Southard, Richard Southard, and Lidie Chapman.
Frank will be dearly missed by his wife, Rachel; his sons, Frank Jr. (Phyllis) and Jim (Karen); his grandchildren, Jennifer, Richard II (Jessica), Alyssa, and Jimmy Jr.; and his great grandchildren, Anthony, Jack, Annabelle, Kimber, Colt, and Parker. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Burton and Marla Lewis.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Service for Frank at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilm., DE 19805, on Monday, Jul 10 at 12 noon. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00am-11:00am. Interment will take place at Silverbrook Cemetery.
