Franklin Davidson
Age 87 of Wilmington
Passed away peacefully on March 18,2023.
Frank was born in Wilmington to the late Claude and Luella (Horner) Davidson. He was a proud graduate of The Peddie School in Hightstown, NJ. While there he excelled in track and field. He was the 1953 State Champion in the 800m. Frank still holds the school record and was inducted into Peddie School Sports Hall of Fame in 2018. After graduation, he attended the University of Delaware, where he set records in both the broad jump and the 800m. He was also a faithful member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity along with his brother, Jack.
In 1955, Frank enlisted in the U.S. Army, and he proudly served his country during the Korean War. Decorations include good conduct medal and he was honorably discharged in 1958. When he returned home, he went to work as a draftsman for VanDemark & Lynch, before moving on to a career with the State of Delaware. On November 2, 1963, Frank married the love of his life, Mary Nutter. Together they shared almost 60 years of love and happiness until her passing in December 2022.
As a veteran Frank took a great interest in War history. He became an expert in the Korean War as well as many other conflicts throughout history. He was an active member of the Korean War Veterans Association of Delaware. In addition, Frank was an expert in pilot survival kits and his work was published as a part of a larger collection.
Frank was a handyman who had a knack for tinkering. He was a talented woodworker and furniture builder. He had impeccable handwriting, and a love of bacon on everything. But most of all Frank loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed.
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Davidson, and his brother, Jack Davidson.
He is survived by his daughter, Catherine Dobres (Edward), and his grandchildren, Devon, Shannon, and Danielle.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service for Frank at Krienen Funeral Home, 101 W. 6th St., New Castle, DE, on Thursday, March 23 at 11:00am. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00am-11:00am. Interment will take place at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
