Obituary for Henry John Patchak

Henry John Patchak
Age 94 of New Castle
Passed away peacefully on March 26, 2024.
Henry was born in Hazelton, Pennsylvania to the late Alexander and Helen (Grala) Patchak.
Henry was a member of the United States Army and was honorably discharged on April 15, 1954, after serving during the Korean War. He was a member of Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 1-1 for over 50 years. Henry was instrumental in keeping the group alive and flourishing until his passing. He was also a charter member of Homeland Security.
When Henry wasn’t giving back to his country in a larger sense, he took great pride in giving back to his smaller community. He was a member of the New Castle Hundred Lions Club, serving in many capacities, during his tenure. He was also a long-time parishioner of St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church. True to form Henry was a dedicated employee of AAA where he worked for over 40 years helping those around him.
To say Henry had a green thumb would be an understatement. His garden, in Hazelton, was not only the envy of his neighbors but it was published in the Standard Speaker. His and Joanne’s garden in New Castle was award winning both in New Castle and The Philadelphia Horticultural Society.
In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by his first wife, Leona Patchak; his daughter, Jean Lousie Patchak Maia; and his siblings, Mary Strader, Jean Pelly, Alexander Patchak, William Patchak, Richard Patchak, Leona Patchak, and Clara Pataki.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 37 years, Joanne Patchak and his stepsons, Andrew M. Rees 3rd and David T. Rees. Henry is also survived by his favorite little sister and cousin, Leona (Lee) Grala Bachman, and his son-in-law, Joe Maia.
Services for Henry will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions to be made in Henry’s name to The Eye Bank – Altru Vision, 401 N. 3rd Street, Suite 305, Philadelphia, PA 19123.
