Obituary for James R. Fetters

James Fetters age 88 passed away at home on Thursday, September 2, 2021.
Jim was born and raised in Wilmington, DE. He was one of three sons of the late Willard and Ruth
(Owens) Fetters. Jim graduated from Conrad High School in 1950. He was drafted into the United States
Army serving two years in Germany with the military police. When he returned home he married Sylvia
Elaine Mitchell in February of 1957. They purchased their home in Ashley Heights where they raised
their three children. Jim worked for Delmarva Power and Light for 37 years starting as a lineman retiring
at age 55. He worked in many capacities and departments at DP&L but was most proud to be the first
elected business agent of Local 1238.
In his retirement, Jim enjoyed playing and watching golf and travelling with his second wife, Betty Lamb.
He enjoyed Betty’s children and grandchildren as a second family. He treasured the time spent with his
large family. They spent several years in Myrtle Beach before returning to Wilmington. He always had a
home remodeling project to work on or a “new” used car to buy or sell.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Sylvia Fetters; his second wife, Betty Lamb; his
two brothers, Willard Fetters and Robert Fetters; and his stepson, Patrick Lamb. He will be dearly
missed by his children, James R. Fetters, Jr (Donna), Judy Price (Tom), and Michael Fetters (Colleen); his
stepchildren, Richard Lamb (Dawn), Mitzie Horning (James) and Stephanie Eckrich; his grandchildren and
families, Thomas Price Jr. (Keli), Andrew Price (Adriane), Mary Kate Fetters (CJ), James Fetters III, Ian
Fetters (Amanda), Matt Fetters (Kathleen) and Danielle Fetters (Connor); his step grandchildren , Patrick
Lamb, Anthony Nepi, Lauren Perrone, Jeremy Eckrich, Jessica Eckrich and Stacy Lamb; and 10 great-
grandchildren.
The Fetters family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the Veterans Administration Hospital in
Elsmere and Vitas hospice for the compassionate care of Jim throughout his life.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service for Jim at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400
Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19805, on Thursday, September 9 at 11:00am. Friends may call at the
funeral home from 10:00am-11:00am. Interment will take place after the service at All Saints Cemetery.
