Obituary

James F. Hogan, age 85 passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 23, 2019.

Jimmy was born and raised in Wilmington, Del. He graduated from Salesianum High School and the University of Delaware. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force. Jim worked for the the Bank Of Delaware Trust Department where he retired after 25 years of service.

Before and after retirement, Jimmy enjoyed playing and watching golf. He was a long time Phillies fan who enjoyed watching the games from his favorite chair at Mulrooney's Tavern. He also liked sitting and reading the daily newspapers and sharing the latest news with other folks at the tavern. James, Jimmy, Uncle Jim as he was known was a good man.

Jim is survived by his nephews, Tommy, Marty, and Chris Hoffman, John Hogan; nieces, Theresa, Margaret, and Maureen; and sister in-law, Mary Hogan. He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Hoffman and brother, John Hogan.

Our love for him will continue to live through memories that have filled our hearts. He will be sadly missed by all that loved him.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 from 5-7 pm at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy. Wilmington, DE 19805. A service will follow at 7pm. Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Park on Friday, December 6 at 10 am.

Whether you knew him as James, Jim, Jimmy, Jimbo or Uncle Jim (and yes, even if you were not related!), Jim was a very good man to all he came in contact with. He genuinely would help anyone without reservation or with any desire for acclaim. He loved his family so very much and gently mentored them throughout their lives to be the fine people they have each become. The expressions of sympathy, the wonderfully funny stories and the now long ago pictures that you have shared mean a great deal to the Hogan and Hoffman families! It is a great reminder and testament to this lovely gentleman with an enormous spirit. We all know how much he means to us and it is amazing to also know how much he meant to you too. Thank you and God bless

Jim was such a private man he didn’t want anyone to ever make a fuss over him, even today he would think this would be too much.
He was a man who always had time to help others, family, friends, co-workers, even strangers.
Friends and family have reached out to me recently and told me how Jim has helped them in big and small ways, it’s been so very heartfelt to hear these words about someone I’ve looked up to and
love so much.
His humble nature was a trait that existed throughout his life, rarely acknowledging the help, support, or the words of encouragement he gave to the
ones he came in contact with.
He will truly be missed by all who met him.

To Jim’s Family: I worked with Jim at the beginning of my trust career at Bank of Delaware. He was a mentor to me and a great manager. He encouraged me, promoted me and stood by me when I made a few mistakes at my young age! I have continued my career in the trust industry and I will never forget the base that Jim provided to me. I will also never forget the way he would get that sly smile when I said something that struck him as funny or when I didn’t get what he was trying to teach me. Jim always spoke proudly of his nieces and nephews. You all seemed to mean the world to him. Jim was a gentleman. I will always remember him fondly.
