Obituary for James Elwood "Mickey" McLane

Passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 2, 2021.
Mickey was born and raised in Elsmere, Delaware. He was one of seven children born to that late Elwood and Mary (Hyde) McLane. Mickey attended Oak Grove Elementary School and was a proud 1957 graduate of Brown Vocational. He specialized in carpentry and even joined the Local 626 when he was just 16 years old. Upon graduation he went to work for Rupert Construction. After he left Rupert construction, Mickey worked for years as a Security Dispater at Dictograph and then Supervisor at Gettier Security. Mickey was also a lifetime member of Elsmere Fire Co. He joined as a junior member in 1954 and never looked back. He greatly enjoyed his time spent as an active firefighter and as well as his years of being a member of the Fire Police. On October 3, 1959, Mickey married the love of his life, Juanita Howard. Together they spent 61 wonderful years together.
Mickey had a tremendous talent for needle point, cross stitch, and plastic corner needlepoint. He would spend hours making creations to either donate to charities, including A.I. DuPont Hospital, or sell at local craft shows. He even made everyone in his family baby blankets for them to have when they were born. Mickey was the ultimate family man. He would do anything for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff of Vitas Hospice for the special careMickey received, especially his nurses, Jo-Anne RN and Janie RN.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jed McLane, and his great-granddaughter, Atlantis McLane.
Mickey will be greatly missed by his wife, Juanita McLane; his children, James McLane, Jr. (Christine), Dawn Culp (Johnny), and Richard McLane (Rhonda); his grandchildren, Amber Gilmer, James McLane III (Danielle), Jessica McLane, Jenn McLane, and Morgan McLane; and his great grandchildren, James IV, Joseph, Sofia, Luke, and Ben. He is also survived by his siblings, Barbara Massey (Floyd), Don McLane (Lydia), Tommy McLane (Barbara), Mary Ann McLane, and Beverly Barker (Hal), as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service for Mickey on Wednesday, Sept 8, at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilm., DE 19805, at 11:00am. Friends may call at funeral home from 10:00am-11:00am. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions to be made in Mickey’s name to Paralyzed Veterans of America, P.O. Box 758593, Topeka, KS 66675, or Elsmere Fire Co, 1107 Kirkwood Hwy., Elsmere, DE 19805.
