Age 87 of Wilmington
Passed away peacefully on March 21, 2024.
Jean was born in Elm, New Jersey to the late Joseph and Jennie (Amatuzio) D’Agostino. She moved to Delaware as a child and was a proud 1954 graduate of Wilmington High School. Jean married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, John W. Banaszak, on May 7, 1955. They spent 58 loving years together raising their family until John’s passing in 2014.
Jean was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Church for many years until joining St. John the Beloved later in life. She was an active volunteer in both parishes.
Jean was the ultimate homemaker. She took great pride in her cooking and baking. She was so talented her cakes where often requested for weddings. She loved taking care of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and always had a knack with babies.
Jean enjoyed trying her luck on the slot machines and bingo with her best friend, Shirl Cassidy, as well as attending many events at Mid County Senior Center. Jean cherished her time at the beach was most at peace at the water's edge in Rehoboth. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Banaszak, and her siblings, Marie Hedrick, Angelina Miamore, Jay McNutt, Daniel D’Agostino, and Joseph D’Agostino.
She is survived by her four loving children, John Kenneth Banaszak (Janet), Mark Banaszak (Carla), Steven M. Banaszak (Laurie), and Lisa Lewis (Leroy); her grandchildren, Jake, Kate, Steven, Tim, Lauren, Alexis, Tara, and Trevor; and her great grandchildren, Stevie, Christian, Axel, Grace, and Sutton. Jean is also survived by her sister, Margaret Balick.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the celebration of life service for Jean at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilm., DE 19805, on Tuesday, April 2, at 12:00pm. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:30am-12:00pm. Interment will take place privately.
In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions to be made in Jean's name to the Mid-County Senior Center, 1 1st Regiment Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808,
