Joan was born in Wilmington, DE to the late Jane G. and Eugene T.Handlin, Sr.
She worked at various roles in the banking industry for most of her career. She was a dedicated employee at The Associates, Citi Group, and retired from Delaware Park as a main banker. She also worked alongside her brother at M&H Enterprises.

However Joan’s true calling was to be a wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her family more than anything and simply all of them being together were her favorite memories.

She will be dearly missed by her loving husband, William Thielemann; her daughter, Jennifer Thielemann and her husband, Shane Kelley; and her cherished granddaughter, Harper Kelley. She is also survived by her siblings, Eugene Handlin (Laurie), Patricia Taylor (Freddy), and Robert Handlin (Linda), her adoring dog, Daisy; as well as 10 loving in-laws; 14 nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
