Joseph P. “Joe” Dawson
NEW CASTLE, DE - Joseph P. Dawson, age 66 of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, February 16, 2023. He was born and raised in Wilmington, DE, and a graduate of Wilmington High School. He was the son of the late Robert A. Dawson, Sr., and Eleanor A. (Long) Dawson.
Joe loved life and spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed hosting family functions, cooking for any reason, working, and maintaining his home which he tended to meticulously.
Dear to Joe's heart was his Catholic faith and he could be found helping within the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and community often. Joe on numerous occasions over the last 40 years worked in the kitchen for various events at St. Elizabeth, Carnivals, Bazaars, Sports Banquets, etc. He loved the camaraderie and people. Making sure everyone was fed and had fun helping in the kitchen. His preparation and organizational skills were exceptional.
He will forever be remembered and missed for his loving, kind and caring nature, and his one-of-a-kind spirit.
Joe was preceded in death by his brothers Paul Long, Sr., Robert A. Dawson, Jr., Ronald Dawson, and Thomas Dawson. He is survived by his sisters Eleanor “Marie” (Dawson) Hall, Elizabeth A. “Betty” Dawson, and several nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Andrew Himelstein and staff.
A heartfelt thank you is given to Michelle, Tamiko, and Maya with Delaware Hospice for their wonderful care and support. We could not have asked for better care. Everyone was so patient, kind, comforting, and pleasant.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on February 27, 2023 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Interment will be in Cathedral Cemetery.
