Obituary for Joseph S "Butch" Masarik III

Joseph S. “Butch” Masarik III
Passed from this life to be with our Lord on Monday, July 18, 2022, at home.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Tillie (Drobinski) and Joseph S. Masarik, II, and his daughter, Shelly (Masarik) Lewandowski.
Butch served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged and returned home to Wilmington. There he joined the Diamond State VFW Post 2863 as a Life Member, where he served several terms on the Board of Directors.
Butch was a dedicated employee of General Motors for 40 years before retiring in 2004. He served as the Chief Financial Secretary for the UAW before moving his career toward management. Butch was proud of the car he “built” at the plant with only spare parts and ingenuity. He was also an active member of the GM horseshoe league, where he was the only member of management ever asked to play.
Butch met his fiancé, Sharell Bunnell, in 2000 and they enjoyed many different activities together such as Phillies games, fishing trips, NASCAR, family gatherings, and their football rivalry, he being an Eagles fan and she being a fan of the Cowboys.
Butch will be sadly missed by his fiancé, Sharell Bunnell. He is also survived by his children, Joseph “Joey” Masarik, IV and Laura Payton (Frank); his sisters, Vicky Hammond (Harold) and Barbara Skinner (Jimmy); his 5 grandchildren; loving nieces and nephews; and furry feline child, Bud.
The family would d like to thank the team at Delaware Hospice, especially caregiver, Melissa Cole, who was such a comfort.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation for Butch at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilm., DE 19805 from 11:00am-12:00 noon on Monday, August 1. The celebration of life service will begin at 12 at the funeral home. The family also welcomes all to a light luncheon at Diamond State VFW Hall following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family asks donation to be made in Butch’s memory to the VFW National Home for Children, 3573 S Waverly Rd, Eaton Rapids, MI 48827.
