Obituary for June Helen Jump (Cline)

June Helen Cline Jump age 86 of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully at home on April 21, 2021, surrounded by family and friends.

She was born in Wilmington, DE on June 7, 1934. She was the daughter of the late John and Helen Cline (Straughn), She was precede in death by her sister Evelyn Stradley. She is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Harry E. Jump; her best friend and sister, Carolyn Weaver (Ken Ricker); her son, Les Stradley (Diane); her stepchildren, Robert (Donna) and Lynn; nephews, Doug Stradley (Eileen), Donnie Weaver, Billy Hicks (Marlie), niece, Kelli Frassico (Danny); grandsons, Daniel, Robert, Alec, Trevor and Justin; great-nephews, Talon and Bentley; her dear long time best friend, Barbara Todd (Dr. Bill Smith); and many other friends.
June started school with 35 others and finished first in her class as an RN. June was an intelligent girl who was quick to learn. She was a successful nurse specialist working for eye physicians and surgeons in Winchester, VA., Reading, PA and Wilmington, DE.

June enjoyed planning and hosting fun events such as murder mysteries, Halloween themed dress up parties, card games, talent contests and singing. She participated in delivering Meals on Wheels to folks in the Villages. She loved watching the Phillies and adored her cat, Calvin. She was also an active member of the Peniel United Methodist Church in Newport, DE. she enjoyed bike riding, sailing, roller blading, clogging, bowling. And playing instruments such as banjo, guitar, piano and the organ. She loved to read and play on the computer and work on projects on her sewing machine. She was adventurous and was never afraid to try new things, even into her 80's.

She was the most kind hearted, positive and giving individual. She always had a smile on her face and a great laugh, as well as a natural of making everyone feel special. She cared personally for many people. When June's mother passed away, she immediately left work on Friday afternoon, driving to Delaware from Reading, PA to care for her father. She and her husband, Harry were both glad to be "snow birds" at their 2nd home in the Villages.


June was working for an eye doctor and had a patient who unbeknownst to her, worked for the Wilmington News Journal. After a few moments a talking she shared that she had moved away from Delaware for a while but returned. When the patient asked why she returned, she told him that she had reunited with her high school sweetheart in 1991 and they married in 1992. They were married for a short time when they were just out of school and Harry was in the service, but went their separate ways when Harry returned. They met again 36 years later and have been together ever since. The patient was so taken by her story that he ran it in the Sunday News Journal on Valentines Day in 1993.
