Obituary for Karen F. Campbell-Smith
Karen Campbell-Smith, affectionately called Auntie Dean and Mum was born and raised in Clarendon, Jamaica W.I. She was one of nine children for Gloria and Samuel Campbell. From a very young age she was known to be independent, strong willed and a God-fearing individual. She enjoyed being a member of Girl’s Guide & 4-H club for extracurricular activities. She graduated from Bustamante High School where she went on to pursue higher learning at the Technical College level. Karen met the love of her life 36 years ago, Roger Smith. Two years later they welcomed their first born, Garreth. A few years later they got married, and welcomed daughter Rackell & their second son, Roger Smith Jr.
Karen spent the earlier years of her career as a full-time mother and a pre-school teacher. She later expanding her passion to include farming & agriculture. This led to the industry she spent the rest of her career excelling in as an entrepreneur; co-owning an agricultural maintenance contracting company with husband Roger. Their company spanned over a decade with tremendous success providing employment and resources for many families. Both husband and wife worked well together complimenting each other.
In 2015 Karen migrated to the United States to live with her daughter Rackell, who became her primary caregiver. Her husband and son later joined in continuing to provide care and support for Karen. The years that followed had its fair share of challenges with Karen’s cancer diagnosis. However, she was determined to live life to the fullest and never allowed cancer to get the best of her. Karen’s love for Christ was the guiding principle by which she lived and was the prime motivator in everything she did. This was evident in how she encouraged, inspired & uplifted everyone that crossed her path.
Her life was a living testimony of God’s love, grace & mercy. Karen’s love for her family and friends was without reservation; she loved intentionally, gave willingly and lived without regrets. Her two grand daughters were the light of her life. She often expressed how truly blessed she felt to have shared countless memories of time spent with her family. Road trips with her daughter, park ventures, long walks both for leisure and in support of breast cancer awareness. She also enjoyed being a member of the knitting club & Chancel Choir at African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas.
Karen is survived by her dear husband Roger Smith, daughter Rackell Smith, son Roger Smith Jr, granddaughters Gabrielle & Arianna Smith. Mother Gloria Campbell, 4 sisters, 2 brothers, aunts, cousins, loving nieces, nephews and dear friends Winsome Josephs & Joseph Davids.
During this difficult time Karen would say “If this is God’s will I am satisfied with it.” Therefore, I encourage you all to be encouraged in Christ & love one another as Christ loves.
