Kathleen “Kathy” Alfree
Age 64 of Wilmington
Passed away at home on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.
Kathy was the oldest of five children born to the late Carl and Dolores (Kane) Bader. She was raised in Wilmington and was a proud 1977 graduate of Conrad High School. While in high school she was a member of the marching band and was an accomplished flag twirler.
She was a member of the St. Anthony’s Club in New Castle as well as the TAC club. She volunteered often at St. Peter the Apostle School and Parish while her children attended there. She was always the friendly face of recess mom and was instrumental in the donation and construction of the new playground.
Kathy enjoyed the simple things in life like sitting on the beach, reading a good book, cheering on her Eagles, and most all spending time with her “grandbabies”. She had an unmistakable laugh that filled any room. Kathy had many jobs throughout her life, but her proudest title was Mom. She loved her children and grandchildren more than anything and did everything she could to help them succeed in life. Her motherly presence will be dearly missed.
In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her nephew, Cody Bader.
She is survived by her children, Nicole Hanna (Joey), J.J. Alfree (Megan), and Ryan Alfree; her grandchildren Colsen, Ryder, Harper, Talia, Callie, Emma, and a baby girl on the way; and her former husband, Gerald A. Alfree. Kathy is also survived by her siblings, Carl Bader Jr. (Joan), Tommy Bader (June), Ann Crist (David), and Susan Thompson (Rich); her many nieces and nephews; and her dear friend, Kristen Testerman.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service for Kathy at Krienen Funeral Home, 101 W. 6th St., New Castle, DE, on Friday, Sept 22 at 1:30pm. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. Interment will take place privately.
In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions to be made in Kathy’s name to Christ the Teacher School, 2451 Frazer Rd., Newark, DE 19702
