Obituary for Kathryn M "Kathy" Janocha

Kathryn M Janocha, age 64, passed away Monday, February 7th, 2022 at home with her family by her side.

Kathy spent her career working with students of all ages with developmental delays, but always preferred working with young children. Her career began at the Charles Bush School and followed with various positions with The State of Delaware and New Castle County. After a long hiatus to raise three children of her own, Kathy returned to work and ultimately found her place in the Appoquinimink School District. Her co-workers would fondly refer to her as “Super Janocha”. She retired at the end of 2020 to take a new position under the management of her grandchildren, where she thrived in her favorite role: Nonna.

When school was out, Kathy’s world revolved around sunshine. She’d spend her summers on the marina docks and beaches of Ocean City, Maryland; at first for family vacations and later as a weekly escape with her husband. She’d sit dockside listening to the bands play while sipping a bay breeze or the day’s wine of choice and spent countless hours sitting in the sand. Kathy found another home away from home in Williamsburg, VA. She made multiple trips each year to visit Busch Gardens. Ironically, she suffered from motion sickness on rides, so found her joy watching her family twist, turn, and scream on the coasters. Any trip out of town would be accompanied by a tasting at new winery or brewery. Perhaps, her favorite activity was anything that would have created an opportunity to spend time with her family.

Kathy will be forever remembered by her loving husband of 41 years, Mark; her three children, Stephen (Tegan), James (Jess), and Melissa (John Blazejewski); three grandchildren, Jacob, Reese, and Aiden; brothers Joseph Mirabella Jr., David Mirabella Sr. (Carol), and Chris Mirabella; and sisters Donna Crescenzo (Jim), and Sharon Mirabella.

Family and friends are invited to call at Saint Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church, 2431 Frazer Road, Newark, DE 19702 on Tuesday, February 15th, from 6-8 pm, and attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, February 16th at 11 am at the church. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Kathy’s memory to Special Olympics Delaware, 619 S College Avenue, Newark, DE 19716 or www.sode.org.
