Obituary for Lawrence K Elwood

Lawrence Key Elwood
Age 79, of Hockessin, DE

Larry went to be with the Lord on November 13, 2023. He grew up in Silver Spring, MD and graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College. Continuing his education at the University of Maryland, he earned a Ph.D. in psychology. This led to his being appointed professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Subsequently, he accepted a position as clinical psychologist at the Wilmington, Delaware Veterans Affairs Medical Center. It was there that he served with great pride as a gifted and beloved counselor to Veterans in a distinguished career spanning over 30 years. During that time, he was the recipient of the VA Secretary’s prestigious Hands and Heart Award. He often expressed how grateful and honored he felt to serve those who served.
As a long-standing member of Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, Larry was elected Deacon and held other positions in the church. He also volunteered in the community at various organizations and especially enjoyed working with preschoolers at Read Aloud Delaware. His favorite activities included world travel, playing tennis and music. Larry is survived by his devoted wife of over 50 years, Tricia, and his loving daughter, Courtney. He was predeceased by sons Andrew and Charles. The family is most grateful to Cokesbury Village and particularly the loving staff at Willow Brooke Court for their exceptional care. Also greatly appreciated is the Acts Signature Hospice DE team, which provided unwavering compassionate support.
Services will be private.
