Obituary for Marie C "Sis" Stansky (Cannon)

Marie C. “Sis” Stansky passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 6, 2018, with her family by her side.

Sis was born and raised in Historic New Castle. She was one of nine children born to the late Wallace and Marie (Gregg) Cannon.

Sis was a 1948 graduate of St. Peter High School. She worked for DuPont for several years before marrying her 1st grade sweetheart, Edward “Rock” Stansky. Together they spent many happy years raising their family.
Sis was a volunteer. She gave her time and talents whenever possible. Sis volunteered for over 20 years at St. Francis Hospital, John G. Leach School for special needs children, and helped tirelessly at St. Peter the Apostle Parish. Sis was involved in everything from running the bake sale table to being a Eucharistic Minister and she did it all with a smile on her face.

Sis loved to bake and was an excellent cook. Her most treasured time was spent with her family, she loved being a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Edward “Rock” Stansky; her daughters, Joan and Kate; and her siblings, Jean Gallagher, James “Spike” Cannon, and Helen Pawlowicz.

Sis will be dearly missed by her sons, Greg (Andi) and Barney; her grandchildren, Daniel (Alya) and Celia (Chris); and her great grandchildren, Levi and Rebekah. She is also survived by her siblings, Catherine Deascanis, Wallace Cannon (Rosemarie), Christine Loncki (Walter), Elaine Pupillo (Anthony), and Jerome Cannon (Paula).

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, 5th and Harmony Street, New Castle, DE 19720, on Tuesday, Dec 11 at 11:30 am. Friends may call at the church from 10:00am - 11:00am. Interment will take place in the adjoining cemetery.

The family would like to thank Seasons Hospice and Companion Hearts, especially Ellen, Addy, and Janie, for their compassionate care of Sis.

In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions to be made in Sis’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
