Obituary for Mark E. Kibblehouse

Mark E. Kibblehouse, 68, a longtime resident of New Castle, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Marie Kibblehouse, with whom he shared 34 years of marriage.

Mark was born on December 22, 1953 to Lee and Barbara Kibblehouse. He graduated from William Penn High School, attended the University of Delaware earning his degree in History with a minor in English, then obtained his master’s degree in education at Wilmington University.

After college, Mark began his teaching career in Tampa, FL and returned to Delaware to work in the Colonial School District. He finished his career teaching Social Studies at William Penn High School and recently retired from the district after 30 years of teaching.

One of Mark’s true passions was coaching, especially the sport of wrestling. During his career, he coached countless athletes for the following teams– St. Peter’s School, Tampa Catholic High School, Gunning Bedford Middle School, George Read Middle School, William Penn High School, Tyrant Wrestling Club and Salesianum School.

In 1987, Mark married his soulmate, Marie, and together they raised three beautiful children, Erika, Jessica, and Matthew. Mark enjoyed spending his time camping with his family and friends, smoking cigars with his brothers, and drinking a quality bourbon on the rocks. Mark was an avid collector of knives and enjoyed being surrounded by music of all genres.

Mark is preceded in death by parents, Lee and Barbara Kibblehouse; father-in-law, Leo Oberting; and sisters, Louise and Anne Kibblehouse. In addition to his wife Marie and their three children, Mark is survived by his mother-in-law, Camela Oberting; three brothers- Stephen (Jenn), David (Kathleen), and Eric (Lynn). Mark is also survived by many nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.

A visitation for Mark will be held on Saturday, February 5th at the Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home in New Castle, DE from 2pm to 4pm. Services and interment will be private.
