Obituary for Mark L Steward

Mark Steward, 49, passed from this world to the next on May 24, 2021, leaving behind his adored mum, Patricia Whitehead; beloved siblings, Claire Bexton, Saranne Whitehead, Johnathan Steward, and Lisa Cresswell; and step-mum, Sandra Steward. He is survived by nieces and nephews and a legion of adoring fans from all over the globe. On hearing of his passing, many a tear was shed and likewise, many a glass was raised to celebrate his storied and wonderful life.

Shenanigans abounded, including a “Decade (or two) of Decadence” as he loved to say. Mark lived a colorful life characterized by a town painted green, purloined dolphin décor, and a climb up a tree or two in a town square. And oh yes, the green Borat-style bathing suit that resembled some type of floss...unforgettable to all who witnessed it or later saw photographic evidence. He was known as son, brother, and friend to some, as “Stig” and “Stewie” to others, and very privately “Holmesy” to someone who loved him dearly into his final days.

In recent years, he was near and dear to his coworkers and customers at Delco Alarms and even dearer to his adoptive family at McLaren’s Irish Pub. “He never knew a stranger” was a truth about Mark, as he charmed friends and acquaintances from around the globe with his quick, bright smile and British accent.
Mark’s life at times emulated a rock n’ roll lifestyle, or so he hoped, and he was happily able to see his “hometown band” Def Leppard in Pittsburgh, PA not long ago; although he had frequented many live concerts in the UK, when bands like Poison, G&R, and Bon Jovi were just up and coming.

Mark had many fish stories that were actually true—he was able to fish the Atlantic and was thrilled to catch sharks and torment his sister, Claire, with pictures of the beasts, small enough to fit in his hands. It is an understatement to say that he loved fishing, undoubtedly only slightly less than a frosty pint.

We can rest assured that Mark will finally be enjoying Ozzy, Scooby, and Karla once again, and looked after by his father, stepfather, and grandparents. In the tradition of his much-loved Liverpool Football Club, he WILL NEVER WALK ALONE. For family and friends that remain, he will be often remembered, celebrated, and loved for years to come.

There will be a celebration of Mark on Sunday, June 6, 2021, from noon till 3 PM at McLaren’s, 3211 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803. All are welcome to attend.
