Obituary for Mary E George (Moran)

Mary Eileen George, 71, of Wilmington, DE died after a short illness at Christiana’s Seasons Hospice, Friday Jan. 25, 2019. Born in Tamaqua, PA, to the late June (Price) Moran and Joseph D. Moran, she grew up in Vilone Village and graduated from Corpus Christi School in 1965 before studying business management at the University of Delaware for two years.
Married in 1967 to former husband Albert George, they bought a home in Oak Hill where she would spend the rest of her life raising her daughters Jeanne and Stacey while working as a billing specialist at various medical practices. She became life-long friends with the Regan Girls across the street, especially, Betsy, her husband Joe, and their sons Quinton, Josh, Trevor, and Byron.
In her spare time, she gardened or relaxed in her backyard pool. Mary loved to cook, bake, and entertain, and was known for her annual New Year’s Day Open House. She was a member of Corpus Christi RCC’s Parish Council and served as their summer carnival chair for several years. A lifelong girl scout, she was a troop leader and eventually became President of Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Council from 1997-2002.
Mary retired in November 2017 from Newark’s Christiana Care Cardiology Consultants to spend more time with daughters Jeanne M. Jung (Phil), Stacey L. George, and her favorite furbabies Sofie, Sheldon, and Bailey, all of Wilmington.
Mary also is survived by her brother Robert Moran (Kathy) of Millsboro and his son Rob “Bobby” Moran (Beth), and nieces Kelly and Krissy of Newark. She is preceded in death by beloved nephew Brian Moran. Finally, she leaves behind her godchild Melinda (George) DeLia of Bear; Raymond and Mary DiCamillo of Wilmington, her daughters’ godparents; and many loving George Family cousins and their children.
The viewing will be held at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home 1400 Kirkwood Highway in Elsmere Thursday Jan. 31, from 6:00-8:00 PM. Monsignor John Hopkins will officiate the funeral at Krienen-Griffith Friday Feb. 1 at Noon, followed by interment at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay, 225 Old Baltimore Pike, Newark, DE 19702.
