Obituary for Mary Ruth Pratt (Kinser)

Mary Ruth Pratt, age 78 beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 18, 2020 after a long battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family. Although she resided in Wilmington, Delaware for much of her adult life, she was born in Logan, West Virginia on March 6, 1941, to Rush and Lola Kinser. Mary was one of 10 children.

Mary was known by many for her kindness and considerate nature. She oftentimes looked after others in need and spent much of her time caring for nature's wildlife. She loved baking and would frequently gift homemade baked goods to her loved ones along with their friends and family. She was a wonderful homemaker and mother, devoting her entire life to providing a loving home to her husband, children, and grandchildren. Mary found immense joy in forsaking herself to care and provide for others. She had the heart of an angel and would seek out the downtrodden to offer her help. And although Mary was a small, kind and humble woman, she could also be a spitfire. She held strong to her beliefs and she would not give a second thought to address an issue she felt was unjust.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Henry J. Pratt, Jr.; her daughters, Jeanne Giordano (Phillip) of Wilmington, Connie Pratt (Larry Maruszczak) of Elsmere and Carol Pratt-Mascheske (Dayna) of Ontario, Canada; grandsons, Stephen Stewart Jr. (Stephanie Stitchberry) of Wilmington, Danny Salter Jr. (Erika) of Wilmington, and Tony Stewart (Ashlee Knaub) of Wilmington; great-granddaughters, Madelyn Stewart, Lily Stewart and Charlotte Salter; sisters, Shirley Pratt of Rehoboth Beach, Brenda ‘Sue’ Low of Ohio, Rose Angus of Ohio, Connie Johnson of Ohio, and Radine Beaumont of Delaware; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary is preceded in death by both her parents, Rush and Lola Kinser; her brother, Benny Kinser, and sisters, Alberta 'Birdie' MacDonald, Kathy Kinser, and Opal Farmer, and son, Ricky Dale Abbott

Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, January 30, 2020, from 10:30-11:30 am at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy. in Elsmere, DE. Private interment will proceed immediately after.

The family would like to thank Compassionate Care Hospice for the care and support they provided for Mary.

In Lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you make a donation to your favorite animal-related charity.
