Michael Donald Warner or “Big Mike, ” as he was affectionately known, passed away suddenly from natural causes on May 6, 2020 in Newark, Delaware. Born on March 3 rd 1961 to Vera and Donald Warner, Mike lived his entire life in Jefferson Farms in New Castle, DE.
Big in stature yet bigger in heart, all who knew him found a kind and gentle soul who was passionate about ice hockey and enthusiastic about attending music concerts, movies, and sporting events while spending time with his younger brother, David. Mike spent the last years of his life working at the University of Delaware’s ice arenas, where his passion and love for the sport at all levels enabled him to spend time working with colleagues and mentoring college kids coming into their own. His younger sister, Vera, and her husband, Aaron Prough, provided Mike with his wonderful niece, Lilith and nephew, Maximilian about whom he would talk with great pride and joy.
Mike was recently preceded in death by his beloved mother. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him for his kindness to others and his ability to lend a caring ear to everyone. A private interment will take place at Silverbrook Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to The B+ Foundation, 101 Rockland Circle, Wilmington, DE, 19803.
