Obituary for Patricia C. Lesniczak (McGovern)
Patricia Catherine Lesniczak, age 71, of Newark, passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2022, in Newark, Delaware.
She was born to George and Cecilia McGovern on September 20, 1950, in Wilmington. She attended school at Saint Elizabeth’s school in Wilmington and graduated in 1968. She started working as a secretary at DuPont Ag Chem. On March 6, 1976, after a two year courtship, she married the love of her life, Edward Lesniczak Sr. at Saint Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Wilmington. They raised three sons. Her greatest joy was watching them grow and start their own families. Family was important to Patricia and she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
After her sons were grown, Patricia wanted to go back to work and started working at the jewelry counter at Sears. While working there, she also started a career working in the administrative office at the University of Delaware Library. She retired after 21 years with the university. Patricia formed many lifelong friendships that she cherished throughout her employment.
Patricia was given the selfless gift from a kidney donation 15 years ago. She never complained during her years of treatment and never took a single day after her transplant for granted.
In her retirement, Patricia loved to spend time with her family. She enjoyed planning family get-togethers, attending her grandchildren’s school and sport activities and having family dinners. She also loved traveling with her husband. They couldn’t wait to go on their next adventure and enjoy their retirements together. In her spare time, she crocheted beautiful items for her friends and family. Many of her handmade hats were donated to the Delaware Head Huggers: A Knitting Charity that helps to provide hats to patients to help keep their heads warm during their cancer treatments.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Cecilia (Gold) McGovern of Wilmington, DE, her brother-in-law’s, William Valentine and Wilmer Reiter and niece, Laureen Valentine.
Patricia is survived by her husband of 45 years, Edward Lesniczak Sr., of Newark, their children Edward Lesniczak Jr., and his wife, Melissa, of Smyrna and their son, Nate, Jason Lesniczak, and his wife, Kelly, of Townsend and their children, Cameron and Breanna and Corey Lesniczak, and his wife, Megan, of Newark and their children, Matthew, Anna and Carly.
She is also survived by her sister Joan Valentine of Newark, Marge Reiter of Wilmington and George McGovern and his wife, Mary Ann, of Middletown, along with numerous loving cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Saint Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church, 809 S Broom St, Wilmington, DE 19805, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19808. A memorial brunch will follow at the IBEW Local 313 Hall, 814 West Basin Rd, New Castle, DE 19720.
