Phil was born in Wilmington, DE to the late Philip and Catherine (Durham) Dougherty. He was a proud graduate of Corpus Christi High School. After graduation, Phil joined the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country for four years, during which time he was stationed in Turkey and the Pentagon. When he returned home to Delaware, he began his career at Delmarva Power. He was a dedicated and hardworking employee who served in many capacities including repair shop, lineman, and eventually supervisor. After retiring from Delmarva, Phil went on to work for Brandywine Construction and ended his career at Austin and Bednash. On May 21, 1966 he married the love of his life, Sharon. Together they shared 47 happy years raising their family.

He was an active member of Corpus Christi and St. Thomas Parishes and volunteered for various committees at Corpus Christi Church. Phil was also a member of the Pulaski Legion. He enjoyed spending his down time in the garden and was an avid golfer and a member of the Middletown Golf League, enjoying many golf trips up and down the East Coast. Phil was happiest when he was surrounded by his family, especially his adoring grandchildren, never missing a sporting event or band concert.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon; his brother, William Dougherty; and sister-in-law, Patricia Gillis.

He will be dearly missed by his children, Melissa Shavico (Vince), Heather Lear (Joseph), and Megan Dougherty, and his grandchildren, Catherine, Joseph, Vincent, Collin, and Elizabeth. Phil is also survived by his brother, Gerald Dougherty (Barbara) of Ft. Myers, FL; his brothers-in-law, Richard Gillis and Raymond Feret, as well as a large loving extended family.
