Obituary for Roberta Barnes Walker

Roberta Barnes Walker
Age 91 of Delaware City
Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday, November 14, 2022.
Roberta was born on July 10, 1931, in her grandmother’s home on Dalby Alley. She was the youngest of two daughters born to the late Robert and Serena (Green) Barnes. Roberta graduated from William Penn High School in 1949. In March of 1951, she married the love of her life, William C. Walker, Jr. Together they shared 41 loving years of marriage until Whitey’s passing in 1992.
Roberta in her younger years was an active member of Church of the Nativity in New Castle. She was happy to serve her faith community in any capacity they needed including, choir mother, alter guild, member of the vestry, senior warden, and so much more. Most recently Roberta attended Christ Church in Delaware City. She was also a skilled seamstress. Roberta loved sewing, knitting, and crewel embroidery, a skill that took many classes to perfect.
Roberta was the truest definition of a homemaker. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She took great pride in fostering a happy and loving home for her husband and children. She will be dearly missed.
Roberta was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Walker, Jr.; her sister, Kathleen Camelli; and grandson, William David “Spike” Walker.
She is survived by her children, Dawn Gwynn and Robert C. “Skip” Walker; her grandchildren, Colin M. Gwynn and Brian “BJ” Walker; and great grandchildren, Sadie and Aidan Walker; and nephew, Edward J. Camelli.
All services will be held privately at Christ Church in Delaware City.
