Obituary for Rosemary A. Logan (Cassidy)

Rosemary Cassidy Logan (75) of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, made her final trip on Friday, October 29, 2021, with her family by her side. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and Colts fan.

Every day is an adventure when you are a child; you can explore the world, discover your talents, and follow your dreams. Rosemary's childhood began on December 12, 1945. As the youngest child of Pete & Marie Cassidy. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, she grew up with seven siblings in a large Irish-Catholic family and graduated in 1963 from Corpus Christi High School. Gatherings included loud talking, laughter, and drinking with family and friends. She met her best friend Rose Connor Turner in her early childhood, and it was a friendship that lasted until Rose's death in 2012.

One of the first big adventures she undertook was marrying Paul. Engaged within two months of meeting, many people said their marriage wouldn't last. But stubborn as always, they proved everyone wrong and celebrated 53 years of marriage. Sometimes there were hardships and struggles, such as raising four young kids while Paul went to night school at the University of Delaware; or packing up the whole family and moving 25 times. She supported Paul's job transfers to seven states and three foreign countries (Japan, England, and Norway). Although she moved many times, wherever they lived, she made it home. Rosemary became an expert at setting up a new home and taught all her kids and grandkids the proper way to organize a kitchen. She took great pride in taking care of her many homes and entertaining her friends and family in them.

Rosemary was a generous person. For a year, she opened her home to a foreign exchange student, Marcela, who quickly became part of her family. After a dance at Unionville High School, she hosted a party for 25 exchange students and their respective American hosts. While living in Japan, Rosemary met some international students from Sophia University at a bar and invited everyone back to the apartment at 2 am to entertain. Later, she opened her home to a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for the whole group, knowing how much they missed home.

In 1980, Rosemary and Paul settled with the family in the Wiltshire neighborhood in Unionville, PA. A group of young families quickly formed a friendship over their shared love for entertaining, playing bridge, Christmas caroling in July, BBQs, and playing practical jokes on one another. In later years their lives have taken them to new locations; despite this, the strong bonds created in Wiltshire remain strong today. They regularly traveled long distances to see each other, go on vacations, celebrate life events, or simply hang out.

Throughout every season of the year, Rosemary was able to find joy in new adventures and socializing. Spring would bring traveling, including cruises and trips to West Palm Beach, Marco Island, and Hilton Head with friends, where they shared drinks, dinners, and laughter. Her travels took her and Paul from the Arctic Circle to Antarctica, with many stops along the way. Together they visited over 30 countries, including China, Australia, Tahiti, Bora Bora, Africa, and New Zealand, as well as all 50 states. Rosemary was always up for a new adventure. Some of her favorites included swimming with the sharks in Samoa, safari in Zimbabwe, hot air ballooning in England, zip-lining through the jungle in Costa Rica, and sleeping in an ice hotel in Lapland, Sweden. Traveling turns you into a storyteller, and Rosemary was a master storyteller.

Summer was one of her favorite times to entertain both at home and the beach. Having spent her whole life vacationing at Delaware beaches, she was thrilled when they moved to Rehoboth. Summers in Rehoboth included days at the beach with her cousins. Fourth of July brought her children and grandchildren to visit where they "enjoyed" watching the famous TV hot dog eating contest and ended with fireworks. Mornings were spent at the beach, followed by swimming, hors d'oeuvres, grilling, and late-night games of Phase Ten. She loved playing games like Japanese Mah-jongg and bridge. Bowling was also a favorite pastime; she started playing in high school and continued to play for years. While all of the games she loved brought her together with friends and family, her all-time favorite game started as summer cooled into fall - FOOTBALL!

Once football season started, Rosemary could be found cheering for her team in front of the tv or in the stands. While she was a die-hard Indianapolis Colts fan, she loved watching any game of football. If the Colts weren't on, she would support her kids' and grandkids' teams (Go Tigers & Devil) late into the night. A few weeks ago, on what would become one of her last outings, she was able to attend a nail-biting game of the Colts against the Ravens.

As it grew colder out, Rosemary got more excited as her favorite holiday was just around the corner - CHRISTMAS!! She loved the lights, music, and especially Santa Claus. When watching the Macy's Day Parade, Rosemary never lost her joy in seeing Santa on his sleigh. The Christmas season has begun. In addition to collecting Santas from around the world, she shared her talent for cross-stitch by creating beautiful Santa Claus wall hangings. Christmas meant family, friends, and entertaining. These are a few of her favorite things.

At Christmastime, Rosemary enjoyed being with her large family, including her children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was especially excited this year, as she planned to host all her children and grandchildren in their new home. It would have been the first time the entire family would be together on Christmas Day in 27 years. When the family gathers, we know she will be with us in spirit as we celebrate the traditions that she established.

In her last season of life, rheumatoid arthritis gradually kept her from doing many things she loved. However, even up until the end, it never kept her from socializing, storytelling, continuing to meet new friends, and being with the ones she loved.

As her quote from her high school yearbook reminds us, "A true friend is forever a friend." A motto she certainly lived by always.

Rosemary is survived by her best friend, traveling partner, and husband of 53 years, Paul; sister Kathryn Cassidy; brother-in-law David (Rosemary) Logan; children. Lynda (Vincent) Russo, Jody (Jim) Kane, Jack (Betsy) Logan, and Jim (Kata) Logan; and grandchildren: Kathleen (Alex) Pawlikowski, Erin Kane, Tara Logan, Jana Logan, Ryan Kane, Marko Logan, and Emily Kane; and several nieces and nephews.

Rosemary is predeceased by her parents, Hubert "Pete" and Marie Desmond Cassidy; and her siblings and their spouses Connie and Bill Moughan, Grace and Jack Murphy, Thomas and Mary Ann Cassidy, Joanne Tumulty, and Marie Cassidy, and her lifelong friend Rose Connor Turner.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Elizabeth R.C. Church, 809 S. Broom St., Wilm., DE, on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 11:30am. Friends may call at the church from 10:00am-11:00am. Interment will take place at Cathedral Cemetery immediately following mass.
