Obituary for Rudolph F Alvini

Rudolph F. Alvini

Rudy “Tootle” Alvini, 82, passed away peacefully on August 30. He retired from Delmarva Power as a supervisor in the gas department after 35 years of service where he achieved perfect attendance for never missing a single day of work.

He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish for more than 40 years, often serving as an usher at Sunday service.

“Pop” and “Coach” were two of his favorite titles, as Rudy was like a second father and mentor to the hundreds of kids he touched through his love of coaching baseball through New Castle Little League as well as the Catholic Youth Organization with Holy Spirit, St. Peters, and St. Elizabeth.

Rudy had many interests. He loved all things sporting & outdoors, playing for the DP&L fast pitch softball team through the age of 49. He was very proud of earning his black belt in Chintokan Karate-do in his 40s. In addition, he loved to hunt, fish, play horseshoes especially in his Thursday night league, and tending to his farm, where folks from all over would enjoy a glass of his home made “dego red” wine.

He enjoyed following professional sports and rooted for the Phillies, Yankees, and Redskins.

Rudy was predeceased by his parents Maria & Natale Alvini, his brother Louis, his loving wife, Carolyn, daughters Stephanie and Sandra, and his well-loved, furry companions, Gippy and Buster.

Family was everything to Rudy. He will be dearly missed by those he leaves behind, his brother Alexander, daughters Anne Marie (Marvin) and Natalie (Jeff), sons Francis (Holly) and Michael, son in law Steve Minner, grandchildren Steven, Eric, Christopher (Michelle), Brandon, Alyse (Matt), Matthew, Allison (Allie), his great grandson Levi, grand dog Apollo, as well as scores of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Spirit R.C. Church, Halcyon Drive, New Castle, on Wednesday September 6 at 11am. Friends may call at the Parish from 10-11. Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in New Castle, DE

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Spirit R. C.Church, Halcyon Drive, New Castle, New Castle, DE
