Ruth G. Spencer
Age 83 of Millsboro
Passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021.
Ruth was born one of 12 children in Philadelphia to the late George and Elsie (Hoege) Williams. She was a 1956 graduate of Mastbaum High School. After graduation, Ruth married the love of her life, Harold D. Spencer on August 25, 1956. Together they moved to Stanton, Delaware and raised their family.
Besides being a homemaker, Ruth had various careers. She worked for Friehofers Bakery, Community Legal Aide, Red Clay School District, and Atlantic Aviation, where she was a bookkeeper. After retirement Ruth and her husband moved to Millsboro, DE in 1994.
She loved to collect and visit lighthouses and enjoyed fishing with her husband. Ruth was a skilled crocheter and like to do puzzles in her spare time. However, Ruth was happiest spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ruth was a member of St. Mark’s Methodist Church and joined Connelly United Methodist Church when she moved down state.
She will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 65 years, Harold Spencer; her sons, Donald Spencer (Debbie) and David Spencer (Brenda); her 5 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Ruth is also survived by her 11 siblings, Anna, Louise, George, Cecilia, Howard, Walt, William, Michael, Catherine, Edna, and Patricia; numerous loving nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law, Barbara Jean Mitchell.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life service for Ruth on Tuesday, September 28 at 6:00 pm at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilm., DE 19805. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 4:00-6:00 pm. Interment will take place at Gracelawn Cemetery on Thursday, September 30 at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers the family ask contributions to be made in Ruth’s name to Delaware Hospice, 315 Old Landing Rd # 1, Millsboro, DE 19966.
