Age 85 of New Castle
Sophie passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 28, 2024.
She was born to John and Helen Merritt in Wilmington, Delaware.
Sophie worked for her father at the family store in Wilmington as well as Woolworths before being a stay-at-home grandmother. She had a zest for life, and she was always going and doing. Her weekends often consisted of her looking for the best garage sale around. Above all else she loved being with her family and will be terribly missed.
Sophie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Helen; her sister, Christine; and brother, John. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Bob; son, Bob; son-in-law, James Lockwood and daughter-in-law, Marie Odom.
Sophie is survived by her daughters, Marie Lockwood and Helen Hutson (John); her grandchildren, Robert Odom, Shannon Hutson, Daniel Odom, Lea Odom, Kira Lockwood, and John Hutson; her great grandchildren, Destiny Krygier, Daniel Odom, Brittany Krygier, Alexis Taylor, Kassidi Taylor, Briana Taylor, LB Odom, Brandon Odom, and Andrew Henion. She is also survived by 5 great great grandchildren as well as her nephew, Gregory Gorski, with whom she had a special bond.
The family would like to extend thanks to Delaware Hospice for there dedicated care of Sophie
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 3 from 10:00am - 11:00am at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilm., DE 19805. Interment will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions to be made to a charity of your choosing in Sophie’s name.
