Obituary for William Merlino

William "Bill" G. Merlino passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023, after a short illness.

Bill was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Bill was born and spent part of his childhood in Minersville, a coal mining town in Schuylkill County, PA, where he found much affection and connection. He moved to Delaware with his parents, graduated from Salesianum School, and spent a year at the University of Delaware.

Bill was a man who always enjoyed keeping busy and trying new ventures. In addition to working for 30 years with the USPS, he also obtained a realtor’s license and worked in real estate, owned a food truck business in Wilmington, drove a school bus, sold automobiles, and, along with his wife, Patricia, provided home health care and owned a home health care business until his death.

Bill was an animal lover and had many pets over the years, including Rascal, Blackie, Hobo, Hercules, Max, and Tuppy, among others. He was very active in his church, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Bear, being an active member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and an annual volunteer for the church carnival for many years. Bill had a deadpan sense of humor and was an outgoing person who loved to meet new people. He was also well known for being helpful and “having a guy” whenever anyone needed something done. Bill was a big Eagles and Phillies fan and enjoyed seeing them win their respective championships.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Patricia Merlino; his two sons, Jayson and Eric Merlino; his grandsons, Jake and Luke Merlino; his brother, Robert R. Merlino; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William F. Merlino and Joan Chernosky Merlino.
