Obituary for William A. Winkelman

William A. Winkelman, 89, passed away suddenly on January 28, 2021 at Christiana Hospital. William was born on July 15, 1931 in Wilmington, Delaware to parents, Andrew and Frances Winkelman. He graduated from P.S. Dupont High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving 4 years on the battleship U.S.S. Wisconsin. He went to work for the U.S. Postal Service until retirement in 1990.

Bill treasured the time he spent with his family, grandchildren and friends and sharing his life with his beloved wife Doris, you rarely saw one of them without the other. He loved sports and was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Phillies but watching harness racing was his favorite.

Bill will be dearly missed by his wife of 65 years, Doris Winkelman; daughter, Donna Johnson (Marvin) and sons, William Winkelman (Diana), Robert Winkelman (Michelle); 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Frances Sargeant and Ruth Makowsky.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, February 21 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805. Burial will be private. Masks are required and social distancing will be observed.
