Obituary for William L. "Will" Bryson Jr.

William “Will” L. Bryson, Jr. passed away on June 22, 2023 due to complications from a car accident. Will was a beloved son, father, brother, nephew, cousin, friend, coworker and coach. Will was born on February 13, 1985. Will is survived by the light of his life, his son, Liam Gavin. He is also survived by his parents, Madelyn and William L. Bryson, Sr. and his sister, Ashley Connell (Shawn). Will’s extended family included many aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him so very much. He is predeceased by his grandparents, Edward and Mary (Toots) Truitt, Charmaine Bryson and his cousin, Daniel E. Williams.
Will attended St. Peter’s Grade School in New Castle through the 8th grade where he excelled in both his studies and playing sports and was awarded The Athlete of the Year in the 8th grade. He went on to graduate from Salesianum High School in Wilmington where he played both baseball and basketball. Undoubtedly, his most proud moment was graduating with honors from Wilmington University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management in 2021.
Will always knew that education was the key to success. So much so that just days on the job at Astra Zeneca, he decided to go back to school to complete his degree while working full-time and raising his son. His degree as well as learning as much as he could about the business and culture at AstraZeneca propelled him to his current position in management as a Process Analyst. Will loved his work and the people he worked with. His job was always a source of pride for him.
Now anyone who knew Will didn’t have to spend much time with him to know that he was a sports fan. Whether you were talking about the blacktop and pickup basketball games where he was known as a “lights out” jump shooter or playing competitive cornhole where he was a champion player. Not only was he a passionate player, but he was also a passionate fan of his Dallas Cowboys from the time he was a toddler cheering them on with his dad, his sister and anyone who was a fan. It goes without saying, his mother was his greatest fan.
Family was always Will’s top priority. He enjoyed family vacations to the beach, trips to Disneyworld, sporting events, birthday parties or just a family dinner but nothing compared to his time spent with his son, Liam, the most important person in Will’s life. He loved doing so many things with and for Liam like coaching his baseball team, playing soccer with him, watching movies, playing video games, bonfiring in the backyard, grilling him the perfect steak or just spending time talking to him about historical events or current affairs which Liam loves. He and Liam had an incredibly strong bond and had a cherished phrase, I Love You, Best Friends Forever!
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St Peter the Apostle Church, 521 Harmony St., on Friday, June 30 at 12 noon. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 29 at the Krienen Funeral Home, 101 W. 6th St., New Castle, DE from 6 to 8pm. Interment will take place after mass at the Glebe Cemetery.
