Obituary

Dr. Abiodun F. Raimi, age 65, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at home in Delaware. He was born in Ode Aje Alase, Ibadan, Nigeria on December 25, 1959, to Raimi and Limota (Afolabi) Akinleye. Dr. Raimi is survived by his wife of 37 years, Toyin; his three children and his siblings, nieces, and nephews.

He would often share stories with his children of growing up in Ibadan in a large extended family, playing volleyball and soccer, and driving his first VW bug which helped cement his love for engineering and driving. While living in Nigeria, he attended the University of Ibadan, where he was an editor of his college newspaper, played practical jokes on his friends and administrators and cemented his love for soccer. He would later emigrate to the United States in 1988 to pursue a degree in engineering but would later change his degree to nursing. He passed on his love of soccer to his children and spent many early mornings and afternoons watching the Premier League with his family.

He will always be remembered for his faith, dedication to his family, and his unending love for education. It was this quest for knowledge that led him to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, a Master of Healthcare Administration, and a PhD in Management. While pursuing these degrees, he continued to work full-time, always made time for his family and often volunteered with his church. He took his family on many road trips across America and encouraged his children to never stop learning. He would often say that there wasn't anything he wouldn't do for his children, like taking his children to countless water parks and letting his children attempt to teach him how to swim when he was in his 50s despite his lifelong fear of the water. His love of learning was not limited to books, he also taught many others to love the medical profession as much as he did.

Dr. Raimi was a man of deep faith. He lived his life through kindness, generosity, and compassion. He will be missed terribly by his family, friends, church family, and all who knew and loved him. They are grateful to know that they will see him again in heaven.
