Alfred G. "Al" Ivone
Age 82 of Newark
Passed away in his home on Thursday, Jan 1, 2015.
Al was born on Dec 5, 1932 in Norristown, PA, to the late Alfred and Eva Ivone.
He graduated from P.S. DuPont High School in 1949. Al then enlisted in the Marine Corps and served for 4 years during the Korean War. After returning home, he studied accounting at Goldey Beacom College. He work for Wilson Line Company for 20 years and retired from Berger Bros. after many years of dedicated service.
Al's true passion was for Elsmere Little League. He began volunteering as the coach of his sons' baseball teams but gave his time and talents for many years after. He was also loved watching college football especially, cheering on the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
Al was preceded in death by his son, Tony Ivone; grandson, Nick Ivone; and sister, Lorraine Mirabella.
He is survived by his children, Al Ivone and Diane Mercure and her husband, Walt; grandchildren, Paul and Michael Ivone, Timothy and Monica Mercure, and Alicia and Billy Ivone; and 2 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret of Scotland R.C. Church, 2431 Frazer Road, Newark, DE 19702, on Wednesday, Jan 7, 2014 at 9:45am. Friends may call at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilm., DE 19805, on Tuesday, Jan 6, 2014 from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
In lieu of the flowers, please make contributions to the Sunday Breakfast Mission, 110 North Poplar Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Heartland Hospice for their kind and compassionate care during this difficult time.
