Andrew G. Nowell
Age 85, of Wilmington passed away on June 24, 2009 at Heartland Hospice.
Andy was born in Wilmington, DE on August 30, 1923 to the late Mason and Mary Nowell. His mother died at a young age and he and his brothers were raised by their grandmother, Bertha Rowe. He graduated from Brown Vocation School where he played football. He served in the Army and was a Naval Veteran stationed on the U. S. Hornet Aircraft Carrier during WWII. He retired from General Motors in 1985 after 38 years. He was a member of the Diamond State VFW and Defiance Club. Andy enjoyed reading, playing pinnacle with his friends, and visits to Delaware Park.
Andy was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, who passed away in 1977; his second wife, Jean; four brothers, twin Wharton, Mason, Robert & Burton. He is survived by his sons, Alex (Lois) of Middletown and Andrew (Sandi) of Newark; six grandchildren, A.J., Brian, Chris, Doug, Tara, and Jeffrey, and eleven great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Elsmere on Monday afternoon, June 29th at 2 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Monday afternoon. Interment will be in the Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington.
