Arthur J. O'Neill Jr.
"Mick"
Died on Friday, April 22, 2011 in his home with his family by his side.
Arthur, or 'Mick,' was born to Arthur and Christine O'Neill on March 13, 1923 in Conchehocken, PA.
Mick enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943 after working in Frederick, MD with the Conservation Corps. Shortly after his enlistment, Mick met the love of his life, Catherine (Mohan) O'Neill, affectionately known to him as 'Kitty.' The two wed on December 27, 1944 during a furlough before Mick shipped out to Indochina with the Army Air Corps. Mick served honorably through 1946 as a Crew Chief for P-47 Fighters and leaving with the rank of Corporal.
Mick's love of aircraft continued as he worked for Boeing, and eventually Atlantic Aviation in 1958. At Atlantic Aviation he dedicated 30+ years of service working as a sheet metal mechanic, general foreman, and manager of customer service until his retirement in 1988.
Mick enjoyed meeting and joining friends as a life member of the VFW Post 2863, American Legion Post 27, and the Defiance Athletic Association.
He was an avid reader and had a special passion for the American Civil War.
When Mick had the opportunity to relax, he loved to spend time fishing and crabbing, and especially loved spending time at the Outer Banks and his daughter Mary's vacation home in Saxton, PA.
Mick was well known among family and friends as a handyman who could not turn a project down. He had the innate ability to help those in need get the job done, no matter how difficult the task.
Arthur, Mick, Dad, Pop-Pop or any other name he went by, loved to spend time with his family and closest friends; and those privileged to have known him understand just how much he will be missed.
He was the son of the late Arthur and Christine O'Neill; He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ed O'Neill, Jack O'Neill, and Jim O'Neill; and great-granddaughters, Gabrielle and Abigail Motter. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Catherine (Mohan) O'Neill; daughters, Betty Ann Gates and her husband Edward, Mary Kestler; son, Art O'Neill and his wife Mary Ann; beloved grandchildren, Colleen, Jennifer, Christopher, Kelly, Meghan, and Brittany; great-grandchildren, Grady, Logan, Brogan, and Lilly; his brother, Bill O'Neill; and his sister, Mary Zawaski.
