Bernice passed away peacefully on October 28, 2023.
Bernice was born to the late Charles and Mildred (Paynter) Seward on April 2nd , 1936. She grew up in Wilmington and attended Brown Vocational High School. Upon graduation, Bernice went to work for Airport Shuttle as a dispatcher. She was a dedicated employee for over 30 years.
In her down time Bernice enjoyed traveling. She made many trips both near and far and loved immersing herself into the culture of different places. While she was home Bernice enjoyed going to Delaware Park with her husband. She loved to try her luck on horse racing or the slot machines.
Bernice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother that will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, James Zickgraf; granddaughter, Crystal Gilland; and siblings, James Seward, Charles Seward, and Irene Seward.
Bernice leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband of 66 years, Richard Gilland; her children, Patrica Johnson and Richard Gilland (Kimberly Avery); her grandchildren, Patricia, Stacy, Joey, Richard, Alicia, and Brianna; and her nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
