Betty L. Speakman (Millman) passed away on July 29 at Heartland Hospice. She was 92 years old. She was the daughter of the late Willard and Helen Millman. Betty spent most of her life as a homemaker and raising her nine children. After her children had grown she worked for and retired from the law offices of Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor. She was a longtime member of Corpus Christi R.C. Church and past member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality. She was also a charter member of the Delaware chapter of Catholic Daughters of America.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John D. Speakman, Sr., her sons Stephen (Steve) Speakman, Dennis (Randy) Speakman and Robert (Bob) Speakman, her daughter Christine (Tina) Speakman, her grandson Gregory Speakman, and her great-grandson Brayden Speakman. She is survived by her sons John (Jack) Speakman, Jr. (Marie) of Hockessin and Thomas (Tom) Speakman (Billie) of Middletown, her daughters Judith (Judy) Shaw (Mark) of Wilmington, Kathleen Walsh (Pat) of New Castle, and Karen Speakman of Wilmington. She is also survived by 11 Grandchildren and 12 Great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother Aldred Millman of Chico, California.

Betty enjoyed spending time with all her family especially her little great-grandchildren. She especially enjoyed watching her squirrels and birds on her back patio.

We would like to express our gratitude to her Nurse Practioner Deborah Hoffman, Visiting Nurse Corrie, and her VNA aides Opal and Holly for their incredible support these last few weeks. You were so loving and kind to Betty. We would also like to thank all the nurses and aides and Heartland Hospice for supporting Betty and our entire family through her journey.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at 11:00 at Corpus Christi Church with visitation at 9:30 – 11:00 at the church which is located at 901 New Road, Elsmere, DE. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, 1703 West 10th Street, Wilmington, DE 19805.
