Catherine Anne Buckley

August 9, 1943 – October 8, 2026

Catherine Anne "Kate" Buckley (née Kaufmann), 83, of New Castle, Delaware, died peacefully on October 8, 2026, at the home of her daughter Eve in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she was the only child of George S. Kaufmann and Nora (Quinn) Kaufmann. She graduated from Trinity College in Washington, D.C., and went on to St Hilda's College, Oxford, where she earned a B.Litt. in English literature.

On September 7, 1968, she married Michael Buckley in Fox Chapel, Pennsylvania. She taught English literature at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio, and raised five children. She loved literature, her faith, and her family.

She was an active parishioner of the Cathedral of St. Peter in Wilmington.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Michael; her children, Eve (David Stockman), Nathanael (Alison Buckley), Jeremiah (Jessica Carlisle), Clare, and Nicholas (Yuko Watanabe); and her nine grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents.

A viewing will be held Sunday, October 18, from 5 to 7 pm at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 101 West 6th St., New Castle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, October 19, at 10 am at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 521 Harmony St., New Castle, followed by burial at All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Wilmington.
